The Ott Family YMCA is home to one of the premier aquatic facilities in Tucson! There is plenty of fun to be had in any one of our bodies of water featuring a 25 yard lap pool, a 12 foot diving bay with a water slide and diving board, a warm water instructional pool and a new splash pad. Our aquatic facility was fully reconstructed in April 2010, and provides of a wide variety of aquatic programming for all ages and abilities.

Group Swim Lessons
The Ott YMCA provides instructional swimming programs for all ages, ability levels and interests. These programs lay the foundation for a lifetime of safe, healthy activities in any aquatic environment.

Children 3-5 years of age may take a Pike, Eel or Ray class based on the following:

  • Pikes are children that have never had a lesson and are unfamiliar with an aquatic environment. Students will learn beginning skills.
  • Eels are non-swimmers but are comfortable in the water with supervision. Students will build on beginning skills such as bubble-blowing, front and back floating and full submersion.
  • Rays is the advanced level where students learn to tread water, bob and get a breath in the shallow end.

Children 6-12 years of age may take a Polliwog, Guppy or Minnow class based on the following:

  • Polliwogs are children who are non-swimmers and unfamiliar with an aquatic surrounding.
  • Guppies are comfortable in the water, but would like to learn the fundamentals of the basic strokes skills.
  • Minnows is the advanced level where where students learn the front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke, elementary backstroke and diving.

We also offer Parent/Child classes for ages 6 months to 36 months. A parent must be present and participate in all Parent/Child classes.

The fee to participate in the four week Tuesday and Thursday or Monday through Thursday classes is $32 for Facility Members and $52 for Program Members. Saturday classes are $16 for Facility Members and $26 for Program Members.

Adult Swim Lessons
Ages 13 and above. Whether you need to learn the essential basics of swimming or are an advanced swimmer wanting to perfect your technique and stroke, we have a class for you! Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15-5:00pm for Beginner/Intermediate levels. Fees to participate are $35 for Family Members and $55 for Program Members.

Private Swim Lessons
Private lessons let the student set the goal and the pace. Private lessons are for people of any age and any skill level. The hours of instruction are divided into increments to fit within the student’s and instructor’s schedule.

Facility Members may purchase 3 hours of instruction for $80 or 5 hours for $110. Program Members are offered 3 hours for $120 and 5 hours for $170.

Semi-Private Swim Lessons
Semi-private lessons include the instructor and 2 students. Times and dates are coordinated based on the instructor's availability and the student's schedules.  All ages are welcome! Cost listed is the total cost for two students.

Facility Members may purchase 3 hours of instruction for $130 or 5 hours for $190. Program Members are offered 3 hours for $190 or 5 hours for $240.

Swim Safe Week: 5/24 - 5/27
Learn how to be safe and have fun while swimming! For boys and girls 6-12 years of age to learn backyard pool, beach, water park and boating safety. We will have four 50 minute classes from 10:00am to 10:50am. Fee is $5 to participate and enrollment is limited, so register soon!

Home School Swim
Designated for children who are home schooled, these classes are for 3 to 12 year olds. Offered at the Ott Family YMCA, classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00pm - 1:45pm for Pike, Eel and Ray level of swimmers. From 2:00pm to 2:45pm Polliwog, Guppy and Minnow classes will be taught. Our next session will occur from
May 3 - May 26. Fees for Facility Members are $32 per session, and $42 per session for Program Members.

Swim Lesson Refund/Credit Policy
Refunds, cancellations and moving to another session may be made up until the registration deadline. After the registration deadline refunds or session movement will not be given, as we can no longer fill that spot with another swimmer. Exceptions may be made for medical emergencies, but a doctor's note is required. If you are unsure of the skill level of your child, please contact the Aquatic Director prior to registration to ensure appropriate placement.


Otters Swim Team
The Otters Swim Team is a USA Swimming affiliated team for swimmers ages 5 to 18 that is active year round. All levels of swimmers are welcome, but participants must be able to swim at least 50 yards of freestyle without stopping.  Please attend a swim practice prior to registration so the Coach can conduct an assessment and place your child on the appropriate team. USA/YMCA swim meets. Although practices are held Monday through Friday, swimmers are not required to attend all five days of practice. 

The Yellow Team will focus on the development of sound stroke techniques and practices Monday through Friday from 4:00pm - 5:15pm. The fee is $35 per month for the first child and $25 per month for each additional child. Facility Membership is required.*

The Blue Team will focus on technique and physical development and practices Monday through Friday from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. The fee is $45 per month for the first child and $35 per month for each additional child. Facility Membership is required.*

*To be on the Otters Swim Team your child must have either a Youth or Family facility membership. Payment for monthly swim team dues will be made through a bank draft on the 5th or the 20th of each month, or paid in advance for the full season.

Mini Otters Swim Team
This team is for children who are at least 4-years-old who would like to be on the YMCA Otters Swim Team, but need to learn or improve their strokes and endurance first. Children will be introduced to competitive swimming skills and racing dives. Mini Otters practice Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:00pm – 4:45pm. Swimmers need to comfortable in deep water without flotation to participate.

Facility Members pay $28 per month while Program Members pay $38.


American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
SwimParticipants must be 15 years of age and pass the qualifying swim test. Class includes certification in the ARC Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid as well as AED. No refunds will be given after the registration deadline.

Our first summer training will be held May 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th from 9:00am - 5:00pm each day. We also offer a training from 12:00pm - 8:00pm on May 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th. Fee for Facility Members is $150. Program Members pay $160.

Jr. Lifeguard Camp
Participants ages 11-14 will gain a range of knowledge, attitudes and skills in 5 major areas: Injury prevention, emergency response, physical fitness, professionalism and leadership. Campers receive a Jr. Lifeguard kit, activity book, Jr. Lifeguard shirt and whistle. Prepare for a job in the future. Mon. - Fri. 9:00am - 3:00pm. Session 1 will be offered from June 21st to June 25th, and Session 2 will occur July 19th to July 23rd.

Red Cross Babysitter Training
This American Red Cross babysitter's training course is designed to provide youth ages 11-14 with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians. 

Join us for Babysitting Boot Camp from June 7th to June 11th from 10:00am - 3:00pm. This training helps participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism, basic care, safety, safe play and first aid. Students will learn how to help in a choking emergency and to give rescue breaths until trained medical personnel arrive. Fees to participate are $56 for Facility Members and $66 for Program Members.

Adult, Child, Infant CPR, Standard First Aid & AED
Someone is choking, bleeding or is having a heart attack….could you save their life? Sign up and learn how. Class is held in the Multi Purpose room. No Program Membership required. Members pay $32 and everyone else pays $42.

Training Dates:
June 5th - One day class from 9:00am - 5:00pm
August 21st - One day class from 9:00am - 5:00pm

Pool Safety Council Honor Roll
We are proud to announce that all the YMCA of Southern Arizona has received the Gold Seal of Approval and is on the Honor Roll of the Pool Safety Council. This seal of approval certifies that all pools within the YMCA of Southern Arizona are fully compliant with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, which protects swimmers from entrapment accidents in the pool.
