YMCA Foundation of Southern Arizona
The YMCA Foundation of Southern Arizona is a 501(c)(3) supporting organization created in 1973 to exclusively benefit the YMCA of Southern Arizona. Guided by a Board of Volunteer Directors, the Foundation's purpose is to preserve the corpus and increase the value of its assets through investment growth and new donations.
If you're considering a planned gift, the YMCA Foundation of Southern Arizona was created just for this purpose. Since its inception, it has granted over $2 million to support YMCA programs! Including the YMCA in your will or estate plans ensures that:
- Your wishes are carried out in the future.
- Your support continues to help provide programs to kids and families.
- The program or branch you support continues to flourish in the future.
Your gift can be made in many ways, including: through a bequest in your will, beneficiary designations, charitable gift annuities, life Insurance, trusts and real estate.
Approximately 4% of a 12-quarter rolling average of the Foundation's asset base is distributed to the YMCA branches annually to enhance their ability to serve the community. This addresses the present needs of the Y while preserving the strength of the Foundation for generations to come. The annual payout is about $100,000 and is spent on:
- Program Development: Each year nearly 20% of the Y's programs are new. The Foundation funds this innovation to insure that the Y remains relevant for today's youth and families.
- Facility Maintenance: We love the fact that our facilities are used by so many people in our community. However, this blessing comes with a responsibility to maintain our facilities despite the wear and tear that comes with such high use. We are grateful that some of our donors endow a portion of their gift to go towards this unglamorous, but necessary, purpose.
Program Scholarships: Because it is so important to us that everyone gets the benefit of YMCA participation, we dedicate more than one third of the Foundation's annual award towards scholarships for youth and families experiencing financial hardships. Along with donations from our annual Changing Lives campaign, the Foundation enables us to offer financial assistance to more than 10,000 individuals every year.
The YMCA's Heritage Club
People who make legacy gifts to the YMCA Foundation of Southern Arizona comprise the YMCA's Heritage Club. These dedicated supporters of the Y believe strongly in our mission and are committed to ensuring that the Y's life changing programs are available for future generations. By joining the Heritage Club, you make sure your support of the YMCA continues in the future.
Planned giving contributions can provide you with many benefits, including:
A legacy of support for the YMCA.- Clarity to all beneficiaries of your final wishes.
- Income tax deductions.
- Capital gains savings.
- Avoidance of probate.
- Elimination of inheritance and estate taxes.
- Increased income to you from your investments.
As a member of the Heritage Club, you can be part of a long tradition of selfless philanthropy. Each of the generous men and women of the Club have given us a special gift, and we rely on their guidance as to how best to use it. Clermont Loper established an endowment fund for youth. LaVerne Hawkins created the C.S. "Chick" Hawkins Memorial Fund to provide campership money for children whose families cannot afford to send them to camp. Art and Ginny Martin are very involved in our Changing Lives campaign and the YMCA Foundation. They've also set up a Charitable Remainder Trust to benefit the Y in the future. Tom and Ginny Roof have been instrumental in constructing and remodeling buildings at both the Triangle Y Ranch and the Ott Family YMCA. Not content to stop there, they've also included the YMCA in their estate. Roy and Delores Morey have also set aside part of their estate as a gift to the Foundation, to continue their lifelong work of helping children in need. Jay and Barbara Kittle know that travel abroad can be an eye-opening experience. Jay created the International Program Fund to give young Tucsonans the opportunity to travel abroad, along with providing support for recent immigrants to help them integrate into our community.
