Become an every day hero

As our community continues to practice the “stay home, stay healthy, stay connected” order, it can be difficult to find ways to show your appreciation while maintaining your distance.

From supermarkets ensuring everyone has the opportunity to get necessary supplies through special hours of operation to “teacher parades” bringing joy to students while schools are closed, we have all seen how one kind gesture can have a ripple effect. You can be an everyday hero in your community by starting a wave of gratitude.

We have gathered our favorite acts of kindness ideas that will help you responsibly spread joy to those closest to you, even the dedicated delivery drivers and trusted medical professionals.

  1. Let someone know you are thinking of them while helping support local business. Order a meal from a locally owned restaurant and have it delivered to a family member or friend. Check out this Guide to Tucson Take Out & Delivery from Tucson Foodie.
  2. Stay busy and help keep others safe by making DIY protective face masks for yourself, family, friends, and medical personnel. Joann’s has some great free resources, tutorials, and more here.
  3. Encourage neighbors to stay active and have fun all while adhering to social distancing guidelines by having a Teddy Bear Scavenger Hunt (or celebrate Easter with a Bunny Hunt). Read all about it here.
  4. Show your appreciation to delivery drivers by leaving useful gifts and a thoughtful message. Check out this story from right here in Arizona!

To help encourage others to do the same, share your story on social media and tag @TucsonYMCA because, after all, we are #BetterTogether.
