Kelly is a beautiful, bright-eyed, easy-to smile young woman; Kelly also happens to have Down syndrome. Kelly took Karate classes at the YMCA this past Fall, works out with a personal trainer three times weekly, as well as swims at the Y a couple of afternoons a week. Since the moment she walked into the Y, she has been treated with kindness, dignity, and respect. The day she signed up, the young man at the front desk welcomed Kelly with genuine enthusiasm saying, ” I’ve heard about you – you are famous, and now I finally get to meet you!”
Cathy, Kelly’s mom shared, “The Y has had an openness that is refreshing. They have challenged Kelly to do her best. The staff take their time – talking with her with patience, and giving her explicit visuals of what they want her to try. I feel grateful that I chose the Y because Kelly is getting an awesome workout and she looks forward to her time at the Y. As a mom it feels good to know that my daughter is not only safe, and getting a great workout, but also having a blast. The Y has been a blessing in BOTH our lives!”
